72 Years of Defining Home
72 Years of Defining Home
What started as one small store with a big dream has turned into one of Auckland’s go-to furniture destinations, a place where design meets real life.
Over the years, Bradfords has built a name on good taste, great relationships, and a sharp eye for what makes a house feel like home. As we celebrate our birthday this October, it’s a reminder of how much design and the way we live have evolved. From retro curves and shag rugs to sleek marble tops and modular sofas, one thing has stayed the same: we love helping people make their spaces feel like their own.
At the heart of Bradfords, it’s always been about family, the one that built it, and the many who’ve built their lives around it. We’ve been there through generations of change: when living rooms were “look but don’t sit” zones, when open-plan living took over, when furniture became less about matching sets and more about personal style. We’ve seen design go from handmade joinery and heavy oak to clever materials that are lighter, stronger, and way more forgiving when life happens. But through all the updates and glow-ups, our core stays solid: quality, longevity, and pieces that make your space feel like home.
Let’s be honest, furniture’s not just about looking good anymore. It’s got to work. It’s got to handle dinner parties, Netflix nights, surprise sleepovers, and the occasional paint-with-the-kids disaster. We’re all living differently now, and our homes have to keep up. That’s why we’re all in on materials that make life easier — timbers that stay strong without the upkeep, ceramic and sintered stone that laugh in the face of red wine stains, and fabrics you can spill on and still love.
Our collections are made for real life for families, flatmates, entertainers, and quiet types alike. The ones who want spaces that aren’t staged for a photoshoot but styled for life. Each season, our team pulls together pieces that blend classic comfort with new energy, mixing timeless Italian craftsmanship with a little Kiwi ease.
Seventy-two years later, the thing that still matters most is people. The families who’ve been with us since their first flat, the designers who trust us to bring their projects to life, and the next-gen homeowners walking through our doors for the first time. Whether it’s our team in-store, our design partners, or the community we’ve grown with, Bradfords has always been about connection.
We love seeing people make our pieces part of their story. From the first big purchase to the “we need a bigger sofa” moment, it’s all part of it. We’ve also been leaning into collabs and creativity, partnering with NZ brands we admire, celebrating the mix of ideas and styles that keep design exciting and are about to launch our new initiative for local artists.
Birthdays make you look back, but also ahead. Seventy-two years in, we’re still dreaming big- exploring new materials, new makers, and new ways to bring the Bradford experience to everyone who loves design. The future of home feels open, personal, and full of possibility, and we’re here for all of it. Whether that’s through our online collections, in-store experiences, or the partnerships we keep building, one thing’s certain: we’re not done evolving.
Seventy-two years down, and we’re still just getting started.
